Re:Matching Points

You really need to take a scant 1/4 seam; you loose a little fabric in the fold of the fabric. Put a pin through one point and then the other, put pins both sides of that pin to keep it from shifting. When you sew, aim for just outside where the points line up.

A fraction of an inch of extra material at the points doesn't show as much as cutting a dark point off. Aso, before redoing a point, view the quilt from the distance it will be viewed at; if it isn't noticable, don't change it. Consider the use of the quilt, if it will be an heirloom, fix it; but if it is to be a child's quilt don't bother.

When putting units together you sometimes have to vary your seam allowance a little. At least I do, because no matter how carefully I sew and check my measurements, something doesn't come out right. I don't rip out and resew, unless my seam allowance has shrunk to less than 3/16 . If it turns out to be 1/8 for a short ways (less than 1/2 ), I might let it go and double stitch to cut down on fraying. Some of that depends on the quilt's use.
