Can also use baking paper - In Aus we have GladBake. (and other brands as well). It also keeps the iron clean when pressing fused fabric. And it is cheap enough from the supermarket. Can reuse over and over.

I read some where that some parchment paper can be used instead of the silicone pressing sheets. I picked up a roll of silicone coated parchment paper by IF YOU CARE. I tried some scraps of fused fabric on it and it worked great to fuse multiple pieces together and protect my iron at the same time. The pieces peeled right off the paper. Do try some scraps with other brands to see if it works.

Is this to be a 6 finished block? I made one but need to make it better. It doesn't help that I sewed it at night and I couldn't see very well. I might include some 2 1/2 squares or a big square of fabric.

Ruth you could use a piece of fabric with hearts on it and write your name and info. Anna will understand that and you wont miss out that way. some fabrics are so lovely that they can look like applique if not close to it. Its thinking of her that matters, not our workmanship as such

Fantastic info. Pat. You have covered it very well. am off to see what I can come up with. Background colour - anything in particular? Maybe cream - homespun or tone on tone would be good or something like that?
Most people would have that available to them.Post edited by: MarilynD, at: 2008/02/10 19:56

I have her address since I send my noodles there. How about we say 6 inch block, no particular pattern, just a heart of some kind with a signature space, name, city, country?. Can be in the heart or the surrounding area. Can be several hearts for you fancy people or a simple one for people like me, just a 6 inch block with a heart theme and a signature space.
email or im me and I will give address. She can start peicing them together as she sits at hospital or home at husbands side.
Joann's has a cute heart postcard if anyone is interested, but for this one we want Anna to make a memory quilt.

Guess quite a few of us will need to find out her address. Maybe if we know who does have it we can email/pm one of those people when we are ready to send. So Pat, any particular size in mind? Or anything else we may need to know?
Oh, Fantastic idea. Hopefully in letting her know how much we care, it will give her the strength she needs to keep going.
Marilyn.

I think we should all make a heart block, sign them and mail them to Anna. Getting a heart every day in the mail would give her a moment to smile and remember that we are all there for her. At least it would for me.

Hi Chris,
Thanks again,i have a walking foot.I have it on,but may not done enough basting and i did start in centre and worked outwards.I have all ready layed quilt back on floor and doing more basting to it.Going all so to do some small samples of quilting on the same fabric. The wrinkles are not on top of the quilt but on the backing fabric. So i am thinking it may be may tension.

Thanks for sharing them with us

Re:Help with Machine Quilting
- Re:Help with Machine Quilting - 2008-02-10 01:09:00-05
So fairly large quilt and straight line quilting. so a walking foot is a must haveIf you are working without one, try loosening the presser foot tension so the fabric can move a little more freely. not a guarantee but may help.
One other thing I forgot to mention, is when quilting you need to start in the center and work towards the edges. The reason for this is because as you quilt, it draws up the batting and backing. The more densely you quilt the more it will draw up. So by starting in the center you have the opportunity to adjust pins, or thread basting if needed so you push the wrinkles out toward the edges. (make sense?)
Then if it is not too late, you may want to take the quilt and lay it out on the table or floor, and check the basting and adjust where you can to flatten it out. Add more pins if needed. When I work on a large quilt on my table top machine I am constantly looking at the back and adjusting pins as needed.
