Love the colours. I've been helping with crazy patch squares at the community centre, and it was such fun. I can see that some time soon I'm going to have to make another one. It's such a great way to get the scraps down isn't it

Looks great. I see my polar bears! Mine will have to wait until after Xmas before Iwill have time to do anything probably. My best quilting season isJan to April, when I only have one job and manage to have a little time for my passions!!!
But I do have a plan already.

Re:New quilt 2

  • Re:New quilt 2 - 2007-09-20 07:44:12-04
I had printed fabric that I cut out and applied to what I thought was white cotton. To find out it was white muslin. Helps to wear your glasses when purchasing fabric. It worked ok, but the cotton would not have fraied so much. I had to go back and finish all the edges of the muslin to keep it from continuing to fray, so that made my squares off in size. I am glad that this one is over because it was a nightmare. But the little girl that it was ordered for loved it. So I guess that is all that matters.

WOW. Gorgeous. My scrap BIN (yes big bin) needs a pattern like that. Probably could make about 10 quilts though before it showed a difference. And of course I would have to buy some coordinating sashing or something right!

I used the scraps from the batting that I had cut from my quilts. Just layered them together and put the little pieces in the middle for thickness and 2 pieces that were close in size on the outside.

I love love love it. I have spent a lot of time thinking about making some for our cats. They love to sleep on quilts and the dark calico leaves so much black fur every where. What did you use for batting? Anything special or just regular batting?

Thought you might like to see some place mats I have been making for family gifts. You could do the same with blocks where I have put the embroideries. They have batting (I use the pieces that come off the edge when doing a quilt) and backing and are finished like a mini quilt. You could make coasters to match as well. Or just coasters would be a good small gift. Still thinking of more ideas that can be made out of the stash without purchasing anything.

The quilt is lovely. My $0.02 is this. I like everything symetrical so I would make all 4 blocks surrounding the center the same green. That would mean you would have to pull out the 2 dark green ones but you could then use them to make a co-ordinating pillow sham or 2 throw pillows. Like I said, I like everything symetrical I love your quilt just the way you make it. Its yours all the way.
    Great job!!
    Thanks for sharing

Well done Sue, as I said on chat last evening I think it is Purrrfect.
Enjoyed the picture of you both, srabbling around on the floor, moving the blocks.
I do like your idea Chris, of using fabric from the centre blocks as a border, or even the binding. The more I think about the more I like the idea.
    Brilliant.
Shame DH, quilt will be too big to put in your Christmas Stocking.

  • Re:need input ladies - 2007-09-16 05:54:26-04
What a lovely job on this quilt. since there seems to be some concerns about the two blocks that stand out, why not use that color as the border, (if you have enough material)that way it will take the eye from the border back to the center. It will tie it all together and still keep it interesting!

    Just my $.02

Re:Using the gallery

  • Re:Using the gallery - 2007-09-16 06:03:18-04
Any time you resize a photo, you need to do a save as that way you will have 2 copies of the photo, and your original is intact. If you have no further use for the resized photo you can delete the second one.

    Hi All,
Thanks for your input. The two blocks are not blue they are light green, but with the photo they do look like blue.Suzy not sure yet what colour border.I might do one plain, one with 1/2 square triangles and then another one plain.what do you think
