- Very cool link to quilting helps - 2007-06-16 05:29:06-04
I am ready to start binding my double wedding ring quilt. It has lots of inside corners which I have never done before. So I started looking online for some pointers on mitering inside corners. Its truly amazing how much free instruction there is out in cyber space. I came across Kaye Woods quilting page. I looked around for a bit before discovering she has a tips page. There is some cool stuff there. If you want to brush up on something you could have a look here. http://www.kayewood.com/tips.html At the very bottom of this page there is a link to even watch her online tv shows. When the video first comes up it is tiny but there is a button to make it bigger. It is very very cool. Still no machine so surfing instead.;) Anna

I love these two blocks. What a great idea. Make sure we get to see it when its done ok? The family baby quilts I started making 10 years or so ago all have the baby's name on them like you have the months. It really adds something special. Happy quilting AnnaPost edited by: usannda, at: 2007/06/15 22:38

Hi everyone, just a quick show of the 2 mini quilt tops I have made. I have to make 12 for each month. I have used applique paper and blanket stitch as I am in a hurry to get this project finished. It is to be a gift.

I have not made a necktie quilt. Mom used to use them in her crazy quilts so I have an idea of what that is like. There are heaps of places online to look at them I will post you a few links. Happy looking http://www.dsquilts.com/custom_ties.html This one is very pretty to look at and has some directions as well. http://www.mspong.org/quilts.html This is a book that has tons of projects using ties http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0801985218/ref=sib_dp_pt/103-3180887-5907842#reader-link that should give you enough to think about for now. Thank you for the link too. I loved your quilt so I went to the link and saved it to my want to try list. It may be easy enough to let the granddaughters have a go at. I think they are read for half square triangles. Thanks Anna

Seam allowances ( beginners take note)
- Seam allowances ( beginners take note) - 2007-06-15 05:08:43-04
I know us that have been doing this a while don't think about this, but I don't seem to have recalled anyone mentioning this for the beginners. I am not sure it is in Michelles directions either. THE NORMAL SEAM ALLOWANCE FOR QILTING IS 1/4 OF AN INCH. THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM SEWING CLOTHES. I didn't know this when I started.Post edited by: kquilts, at: 2007/06/15 10:10

Hi, I've heard heaps about Neck tie quilts but never seen one. Does anybody on the forum make them? If so could you post a picture or two? I'd love to see a silk one, better still I'd love to feel the texture. But I know - the Internet is not quite up to that yet:side:

Hi, Kathy. [It has taken me some time to get back (no computer) since I asked you to show the whole landscape.] Seeing it all makes it much easier to comment on. Once you added the navy blue in the last photo it made a big difference. I like the look of it having the navy blue sashings around the blocks as well. I think that ties them together. From what it looks to me, I think if you keep doing the blocks as you have, in similar colourings it will look great. Love your landscape. Flows really well. I will be away for a week now, so look forward to what others think and what you decide, when I get back. Marilyn

My machine quilting extension table
- My machine quilting extension table - 2007-06-13 11:05:54-04
One of the online quilting courses I am doing is TheQuiltingCoach.com Machine Quilting Adventure. It has been a great source of information that has made my machine quilting skills soar. One of the biggest thing I learned was that your quilt needs to stay level when quilting. If it hangs off your machine it twists and pulls which results in those dreaded tucks on the back side. Penny Halgren created a cardboard box extension table and posted the instructions for the class. I made one and the difference in the quality of my quilting immediately improved. But I found the fabric stuck to the cardboard a bit more than I liked and made it difficult to easily move around to do the quilting stitches. So I modified it a little by putting 2 box tops together and covering them with contact paper. Now the quilt sandwich stays level and glides around like a dream. I thought I would share my version with you gals. But remember Penny Halgren gets all the credit. If you want to improve your machine quilting skills you should check and see if you can still enrol in the class. I have learned so much!! here is the link http://www.how-to-quilt.com/pam.shtml Now here is my extension table set up. Happily quilting away. AnnaPost edited by: usannda, at: 2007/06/13 16:07
