Not so much retire as I am down to one paying job and working from home too. I still teach bit for right now I don't have anyone signed up for classes. I have a lot of people ask about the classes but they don't sign up. I am making more and more things though.

Deb it's beautiful. Almost looks like the Beaver River dam in Beaverton Ontario. Just needs a big circular top bridge over the top and it would be the same.
    Great job.

Teddy Bear Angels are a hug from above . From my Mom's stash (she passed away last year). But I made it from the whole club, it just seemed to suit.

They look great Anna. Whenever you need a hug just grab a heart. Maybe you should put flannel on the back when you make the quilt to make it more cuddly and huggable.

I didnt feel comfortable putting everything out there is cyberspace. They are lovely even with some extra tape bits. I love you all for being so thoughtful.

I have this great fabric that is small baskets of summer berries. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and some other kinds that are yellow or sort of yellow, green. So I think it will be really a nice effect when I get to it. I have been given a new project last night that has to be done by the 24th of March and the Giant Dahlia has to be done by the 1st of April, plus I have the retro quilt that has to completed some where in there too. As well as the class I am writing on a quilt I just completed that I would like to get up in the next week if possible. Not too busy, am I. hahaha I guess I get more done when I am busy than when I don't have a due date. So off I go to work.
    Later,

Re:grandsons quilt

  • Re:grandsons quilt - 2008-02-26 08:36:37-05
I started thie in a class but as usual needed it to be much bigger then they were making so had lots to do at home. Thouroughly enjoyed it. We stacked 6 layers of fabric pinned with butterfly pins and cut out our shapes. The layers had to be exactly on top of eachother for this to work. yes and each pile had to be sewn together. no mixing up . If i hadn't been making it for my grandson I too would have used flowers. If anyone wants the instructions I will email to you. very clear and easy to follow. just so long as you go one step at a time. One lady made hers from a large hydreanga ( ok so i can't spell) very impressive. it was very hard to pick her original fabric. More of these are on my to do list HA HA Chheers Ruth.

Re:grandsons quilt

  • Re:grandsons quilt - 2008-02-25 11:45:49-05
Tennye, the one I made (in a class) was with a pattern not the book or tool. It was pretty simple as long as you kept your pieces in place on the table beside you and sewed them in order. It is more of a pinwheel style than Ruth's, but the same effect. Of course mine is done in flowers and very bright, which is how I do all lessons.

Re:Basting

  • Re:Basting - 2008-02-25 12:29:15-05
technically, any pattern you purchase/download from the web is for your use only. copying, or reproducing and distributing it in any way is a no no.

Of course we have all shared a pattern with a friend. And I am sure that you won't get in any real trouble for that.

But by posting it on the forum, that is a form of reproducing, and anyone could then in theory print and or copy it without ever purchasing the pattern/directions etc. (assuming they were legible) All I had to do was right click on the image, and I can copy it to a file on my computer. It is that easy. So if this were legible, I can steal the pattern or directions right from the forum. Does that make sense?

This deprives the owner of money they could have made by the sale of that pattern or set of directions.

    Hope this answers your question.

I love it too, my boss is wanting me to make one too, but it isn't the stack and whack pattern it is a different one. I have the book and it seems complicated. I will work on it after I finished the Giant Dahlia I have started.

  • Re:help with photo memory quilt - 2008-02-25 10:06:08-05
When reading the instructions on the internet it did mention that you have to set the printer to thick or parchment type paper. Have been checking the paper out here and is about $5.00 a page in 3 different places, so I guess it goes on the Chicago list. Cheaper to order on internet (10 pages 16.49), Jenkins, and pay postage to Canada than buying it here.

Re:grandsons quilt

  • Re:grandsons quilt - 2008-02-25 10:10:18-05
Ruth, is tht a stack and whack? I have done one, but not got it quilted yet. Love it and the process, makes such unique quilts.

Re:Basting

  • Re:Basting - 2008-02-25 10:01:22-05
Chris, I presume this applies to purchased patterns as well? Or is that allowed (legally) at all, letting someone else have the pattern without paying?

    Joyce,
I didn't have any problems with my old printer which was a cheap Epson model that took the pages straight through. Someone one told me that for anything thicker than 80gsm that was the best type of printer. My new printer has all the bells and whistles, and faxes scans etc, but the paper does go up and round. haven't tried it on fabric yet. Just thought I'd pass the tip on.

Re:Basting

  • Re:Basting - 2008-02-25 03:25:13-05
Just a bit of advice, if you are going to post pictures from a book, you need to be sure you reference the book. or this can be a copyright issue.

Although you can't read the print well, I recognize the book, and so will the author. So a book title and it's author needs to be in your post.

(I hope I am not offending you. Just want to keep everyone out of trouble here, and besides who knows, someone might want to purchase the book. It is a good visual reference book to add to any quilting library)

Well done Ruth! I love the stack and whack quilts. I am working on a couple right now. WELL... to be honest, Im working on nothing, but I have a Christmas one and a dolphin one that I started in 2007 and will eventually get back to and finish!!
I love the pattern you used. Are sewing the triangles together as tricky as it looks in the book? Mine are done slightly differently with a kind of pinwheel look to them. I was afraid to try the straight 6 or 8 triangles.
I really love this one of yours. It is great with the read star design.
    Hugs Anna

THE picture doesn't show up well . but it is using a table to do basting on. the hint is using large clips to hold it to the table. if anyone wants a clear email of it just ask and i will send. i haven't used this method but it appears to have merit. BACK SAVING

ok so i got one photo in maybe i can get more in anyway this is a Stack and Whack Quilt. boat theme he lives near the ocean and loves it. the large border of boats is the original fabric. My friend used a boat theme in the quilting. i found it very interesting that the same fabric can produce such different blocks.

Joyce, that must have been a funny sight, but one I am familiar with. A few years ago when I first started putting fabric through my printer I had that same problem and it is so frustrating. But at least i wasnt using bought sheets so if it didnt work there wasnt a huge cost. But the printer I use now seems to be more tolerant of my efforts.
Looking forward to progress reports of your quilt.

Pat, and anyone else thinking about doing some computer printer pictures on fabric, this link came in my email today. It is from a site I belong to but I think anyone can access just this one page. I hope so because at the bottom of the page there is a video showing just how to make fabric ready for printing and the actual printing process. I found it very good. Hope it works.

Oh Joyce, what I would give to have been in the garden giggling with your hubby. What a sight it would have been.
I am sorry you had such trouble though. I have used those sheets and not had a problem but I would have been like you if it had taken that many tries. Steaming mad!!!
I bet when you get on with the quilt it will feel worth the effort. Cant wait to see what you are doing.
Hope your sticky tape does the job.
