  If you had have seen me yesterday you would have thought I was barmy, I decided to print the photos on the new sheets that I bought on Thursday. Well do you think my printer would work, it kept stopping because it said I had a paper jam. Each sheet took about 20 goes before it printed. I was very near to throwing the printer out the window. Hubby was in fits of laughter out in the garden listening to me through the window. He nearly wore the thing.
  Well finally by 10.30 last night I had the 6 sheets printed. So now onto the quilt. Never again, I now need a new printer. I broke a cover on it trying to jiggle it to take the sheets. I have it stuck up with sticky tape now.
  Getting them printed at a shop sounds really good to me right now. Hope you have better luck than me. I will show the quilt progess some time this week. Cheers Joyce

  from start to finish. Block is approx 10 x 10 . Will have hubby make a wood frame for it

  Jean, that sounds similar to what I am planning. Now my husband thinks I should make one for us as well using old photos I have of grands, great grands, and great great grandparents.
  Going to Kitchener today to get computer fixed so will have time to browse maybe a couple of quilt stopres and see about the fabric paper.

  I am going to make 4 of the photo quilts 1 for each of my sisters 1 for me. I has the fabric just got to get time to make them. I am putting our poto, our mothers photo ,grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother. I am going to do a stack slash using 6 FQ'S, I am going to put lace bits on them to make like crasy quilting.

  Joyce I saw that company on the internet yesterday while researching this idea. The sheets are 10 for 16.49 or 30 for 45.00 in white and natural. I think I will look into them when I go to Chicago. The one store I looked in here they were $5.00 each. But I will look around here too.

  I stopped in a Wolf Camera shop and they had a whole display set up for printing photos to a number of items like t-shirts, pillows, and other non-fabric items.
  
  They also had a counter where you can scan the photos, and save to a cd to take home. The gentleman there said they don't print in the store they send them out. He also said he had a lady who wanted them printed on fabric squares for a quilt and they did that for them. He did not remember how much the company charged.
  
  I thought if you had a local camera shop near you you might want to stop in and see if they offer the same services. Or at least see if they off you the ability to scan your photos through their computer and put on a disk to take home. Then you can print on your own fabric sheets.

  yes the dreaded adiction of mine has sprunge it's ugly head again. hey i have to do something can't get to the shops to spend .....what can a girl do ....well at 1 am i can shop on ebay or try and chat to someone but seeing no one is here i will rave on a bit SORRY boredom must be taking over . anyone got a car you can drive with one hand that i could borrow. sorry got off track .. my daughter-in-law is going to print mine up. after all she is a graphic designer and has a $4000. printer so i may as well help her use it. Pat sounds like you are set to go great to have people around that don't mind helping.

  Hi Pat, I am just back from the Quilt Convention and bought some Miracle Fabric Sheets, there was 12 in the packet and they were $29,95 AU so probably a lot less for you as they are from USA. They are from C Jenkins Necktie Company, St Louis, MO the web site for them is www.cjenkinscompany.com phone number is 1-314-521-7544.
  Instructions are written very well on the back of packet and are easy to follow.

  Ruth, I have asked my nephew, who owns a computer business, the best way to do it, and if he has an inkjet printer ans scanner that I could do it with. Just making the plans to see what I need first. Will check out the price of the fabric sheets here and in US as well, might be what I buy in Chicago at quilt show.

  hi pat do you own a printer that also scans. if so all you have to do is scan into your own computer and resize them from there...if you don't surely spmeone you know has and could do this into their computer and email the phoyos to you. Would be a much cheaper and easier option i would think. cheers ruth ps i to have one of these quilts i want to make. i have the fabric just need to catch up on a few that were in line first

  I know Walmart, in Canada, has self serve photo machines, where you actually put a photo in and crop it however you want, deleting and resizing it. So probably I could get a cd there as well. Then I need to buy the fabric sheets, which I know are expensive so want to be sure to have everything right first.
  Then ask at Walmart and at Staples if they have am ink jet printer, Walmart advertises tee shirts I'm pretty sure, maybe I can tansfer directly from picture to fabric sheets there.
  I did read that the pictues shouldn't be more than I think 4 x 6 to be sure there is seam allowance etc.
  Well guess I had better start collecting some pictures, calling the in-laws etc to get baby and childhood for her, and decide how many I need, to keep it a reasonable size.

  Hi Pat, I too am venturing out into the world of Memory Quilts, a friend is celebrating her 50th Birthday in March and I have decided to make her one.
  I have the photos from her family and so far have scanned them onto my computer. I have had picures printed onto fabric before by the local print shop, but was a rubbery iron on type transfer.
  I have purchased the chemicals to make my own sheets. There are two chemicals one you rinse the fabric in dry and then put onto A4 Freezer paper so it will go through your printer, then you rinse with the other chemical to set the picture.
  But this time I am going to buy the sheets all ready to go. A bit lazy is me.
  I Googled Free Patterns for Memory or Photo Quilts and came up with a few patterns that I liked.
  I am putting some applique on it and also on the back am putting an A4 size piece that all the guests at the party can sign.
  You can also add some things they liked from their childhood. ie. Sport they played, school logo's, Favorite food, fun things they did. Like camping,
  This is a quilt I made for a young man who moved away from living near us. There are a couple of photo printed squares in this one. I have printed the recipe for his favorite biscuits.
  One of the patterns I found had poetry printed on it. The mind boggles there are so many ideas. I did not know where to start, but have started with the photos.

  There was a class at quilting weekly in the fall on just this subject but I dont remember it covering how to get your pictures onto your computer. I wonder if you took the photos into Walmart? or some other store that does photos if they could scan your pictures and put them on a cd for you.
  Also I have seen in the mall near me a store that does exactly what your asking about. They take pictures and get them onto fabric and they guarentee that they are permanent and washable. My sister came back from a trip last spring raving about what a wonderful thing that would be to do but she never got around to doing it yet.
  Maybe ask at the quilt stores near you and see what they suggest as per a store to help you.

  Anna is right there is a class at Quilting weekly on how to print photos to fabric. But do to the variances in computers, scanners, cameras etc. I could only give general information on how to get photo in the computer. Although there are many other useful tips in the class to help you put together your quilt. If you want to check it out, we do have a money back guarantee.
  
  But to answer your question, you need to get the photos to your computer. You can do this a number of ways.
  
  1. scan them in if you have a scanner.
  2. if you have the negatives (older pictures) you can bring them to a photo store where they can put them on a disk for you to put on your computer.
  3. I believe the Walgreens (a local drugstore in USA)has a self serve machine where you can put the photos in, and re-print them in any size and I believe they can be put to a disk as well there.
  
  Printing to the fabric sheets, is something that I am not sure if the copy stores are equipped to do. Certainly worth a call to see.
  
  When printing to the fabric sheets you need a ink jet printer to transfer the ink to the fabric sheets. Laser printers will not work. (not sure if copy stores have ink jet printers, many have laser)

  I hve decided that I would like to make a photo memory quilt for my son and his new wife for their wedding present, but I don't know how.
  I have read where you print the pictures off the computer onto the special fabric sheets but!!!!!
  I want to collect pictures from their babyhood to now, including pictures of parents etc and somehow get them onto a quilt, but they are not on the computer.
  Can I take the actual photographs and get them all reprinted to a set size say 5x 7,but would like various sizes, then get them printed onto the fabric sheets at a stationary store like Staples Business Depot?
  I would then have fabric squares to build a quilt around.

  On Saturday i went on a landscape work shop.The lady i had the work shop with, won overall champion 2007 at a quilt show called Quilts in the garden.The desgin of her quilt was called Bluebells.Her name is Ineke Berlyn.The landscape is one of her designs and next to the photo you can see what it will look like once i have finished it.Just got to put borders on,quilt it byhand/machine and then houses and trees.   Spoke to Anna today on chat. She is really looking forward to receiving the hearts. She of course knows about them from reading here, but has not told husband, so he will have a big surprise when they start coming. She is hanging in there, but sometimes by the fingernails. Keep the hearts coming and tell them that we care. Which we do without a doubt.

  Tennye, those are al batiks that were free! I won 2 lots out of 2 at a quilt retreat 2 years ago. We all brought a fat quarter, and palyed 2 games of quilt bingo for them, I won both games and I detest bingo.
  I had 45 fat quarters when I came home. Still don't think husand believes that I won them all.
