Hi Pat
Glad you like the quilt........ I would be honored to have scrap fabric from you or anyone else to include in my quilt... Having fabric from all of you only makes this quilt even more special to me.
The squares I am using are cut to 2 squares.
I would also like to thank everyone else for their kind comments.

When cleaning out our second floor, I examined a heavy scrap quilt. It was partly sewn by hand and partly by machine(just different sized pieces put together). The interesting thing was where some seams had let go I could see some green material; the scrap quilt had been put over a double wedding ring quilt that was worn out! I don't think my in-laws saved it, it was dirty and ragged.
Kathy
I haven't actively collected clothes to recycle lately, because I wanted new fabric for my gift quilts. I have only a couple of bags of such material right now. I did use a recycled dress in my sister-in-law's quilt. I had made the dress for her and it was now very much out of style; she hadn't worn it much and it had a full skirt. It was my focus fabric with many colors.
I have posted photos of this quilt and two others made from recycled material in the gallery.Post edited by: kquilts, at: 2008/11/10 12:46

Very clever Kathy. And as you say using what you have makes it come out more interesting. There is a lot to be said about using and reusing faabrics.
The lady at the guild last week, collects old quilts, and one had 9 layers of fabrics, as the top or back wore out it was just recovered . And a slave quilt she had actually had old baby clothes, and mens socks inside. She siad she always picks them apart to see the inside.

Kathy, that quilt is fantastic, I bet your daughter loves it, both of mine would, purple being one of their favorite colour.
In this months Country Threads there is an article on shopping at Opportunity Shops/Thrift shops, I may go and read it again. It tells you what to look out for and where. I remember giving away a heap of my mothers dresses which had lots of skirt, boy what a waste, I did'nt quilt then.
Only thing for me is, imagine a stash of second hand clothes, my hubby would just about Pop if I started to collect them, because I might use the fabric one day! I guess if you cut up the clothes as soon as you got them home, it might be better. Some serious thinking to be done here.
Cheers to you for the amazing quilt.
A quilt from recycled clothes
- A quilt from recycled clothes - 2008-11-09 08:10:18-05
This is a quilt that I gave to my younger daughter. I made it in 2001, but I just got a digital photo of it recently.
I chose nearly new clothes that no one wanted that were cotton. The light pinks were blouses that were out of style.
I'm sure with money being tight that more recycling will be done. If you expect a quilt to be used up, it is a good way to go. On this quilt I was very fussy and made sure that each fabric resisted tearing.
If I were to buy fabric for this quilt, I would have bought pinks that went together better. Using what you have can give a quilt more character.
The interesting thing was that I had nothing left that would make one more piece for this quilt; the scraps were too small!

I love the idea what a great way to keep every one on the calendar for birthdays and anniversary's. My immediate family is not so big just my five children, but my mom is one of six and so I am on of 19 grand children and that means my five are five of 27 or so and they have over 30 children so far. Makes for a lot of dates to remember for this close family. Thanks for the idea.

How true is the giving philosophy. But some people just don't get it. Some of my friends say things like you will never get rich.
In 2005 when my husband and I were cheated out of our retirement funds and treated really shamefully, by our last employer and we were helped bigtime by our current employer, I decided to pay the good deeds forward and help others if I could afford to.
I love that we can help in the smallest way to make a difference, even if only to one person or family. Quilters are a kind on their own. I Don't know why but we are.

Help has always been forth coming when needed and yes I try to do what little I can for those in need too. I have found the support here overwhelming both when I needed some to talk to or support for a fundraising project. I THANK YOU ALL !!!!Ruth
