The bottom left one does have a large light piece, but it may be able to be used to balance with the 3rd right. Both similar colours and amounts of light. Can you try placing them so they balance each other? Like Suzyq I like the yellow/gold in diagonal corners. That looks good.

Hi Kathy, First I've had time to look at anything. If i were doing it, i think i would have put the red one's dead center like you did on the top and on the right. I like the idea of the two with yellow being digonal to each other (sun rise-sun set). but it's yours and whatever you end up doing is fine. It is really looking good. suzyq

  • Re:previewing landscape (contrast) - 2007-07-14 09:48:52-04
Hi Kathy, reading other coments, maybe the third down on the right, my favourite should be replaced with one in blue, to keep the balance.
That block has my name on it, frame it, Jo's Block
it is the King/Queen of blocks, the block maybe too striking, distracting from the over all colour theme.

Thanks Marilyn for your input. I think I know what I'll change; I mainly was trying to distribute the colors around this time. Third one up on the right is too light for there. Do you think that bottom left is too big a pattern compared to the rest of the blocks?

Wow, Kathy, the border blocks do look good around it. Will be great to see it with the navy blue sashings. The only bit that really stands out to me is the two in the middle right hand side as both having a predominent light tone. But to see them in real life, that may not be so, could be just the way the photo is. (I even had my peep hole viewer up to the screen looking at the balance!!! ) that was all that stood out, rest seem to blend well.
It certainly is looking good. A lot of work there.

Well, I have the blocks for the landscape quilt done. Now it is time to lay they out a decide where they are going. Excuse the poor photo, I couldn't find a good place to hang it. I tried the clothsline, but it was too sunny and washed out the colors.

You are welcome to comment on what you like and dislike about the layout. It will have navy blue sashing.

I want to share what MarilynD has been helping me figure out. I wanted to make a kaleidoscope quilt and she has a lovely one posted in the gallery. I asked for some tips and she did just that. She found her pattern, read it over, gave me some ideas for cutting the fabric, then stacking, and here is the result. I just love it. I am going fabric shopping tomorrow to find some blue cloud fabric for borders, and I have a great multi print for a second border or piping. Once finished it will go to my grandson who asked me to make him a pillow after he saw the friendship pillow.

Marilyn, I couldnt have done such a beautiful thing with out your tips. Thanks ever so much!!

Hi Joyce,I am digitising a new logo now for these shirts. The shirts dont have pockets so I was concerned about the placement, but the tip at the top about printing the template and temporarily adhering it should be helpful as well as the measuring. That site you gave does look good. Very tempting. They must sew out well, seeing you have so many of them.
    Thank you. Marilyn

Hi! Marilyn, I have checked out the site you suggested and saved it in my favorites to read again when I need it. I have done a few shirts for my husbands work and was pleased I could digitize their logo.
Today I am doing some applique on my machine. I have found a site I just love the patterns from. www.designsbyjuju.com/ I have got a couple of dozen of her design sets now and just love them. They are really good value as I have gotten at least half of them as freebies, today buy 2 sets get 3 free. They are often in both sizes 4 x 4 and 5 x 7. I have to stop looking at the site as she brings out a new set nearly every week, can't resist. I may have put this site in a post before, but is is sooo good. Joyce

For those of us who are machine embroiderers, I found this site which has a good explanation of how to place logos, monograms, embroideries on clothing and other articles. I am doing some logos on some work shirts for my husbands company at the moment, and this is just what I need. May help someone else too. http://www.netwrx1.com/~diamond/placement_chart.htm

Well I have been getting this magazine for a while now and am going to stop because I dont make all the projects that are in them. There is simply not enough time in my schedule.I have a lot of ufo's to finish and also am venturing into making a few quilts for a local shop opening here in our town. There is a lot of different crafts in and always very interesting. It is not just a quilting book.It is for you to decide what to do.Maybe you should just get the ones you want and then take it from there.

I just love them all. I have been in contact with the magazine and we are trying to work out a way for me to get the issues with this pattern in them. My question to you is.... How do you find the magazine in total? Do you find plenty of projects to do or was this a one time thing? If its a great magazine with lots of patterns I will sign up for a subscription. I am looking forward to working on these blocks next year. Too cool.

Well here it is, my friendship star pillow, second time around. At first it was sewn together with a dark star and light border on the back. I didnt like it not quilted so I took it all apart, put a larger border on, quilted it, added piping, made a back that opens up and sewed it all back together. Im going to give it to my best friend for Christmas and she has small children at home still so easy to clean is a must at her house.

So, not only did I finish the friendship pillow course I have one Christmas gift crossed off my list!!

Bobbi, I love your pillow. I took the class for the pattern so I could do the blocks for the world thing. So I have not gotten mine made yet. Besides the fact that I have been in bed since Thurs. I have so much to do for the classes I am teaching I have been pretty busy. I really love your pillow though!!!!

Re:FRIENDSHIP PILLOW

  • Re:FRIENDSHIP PILLOW - 2007-07-08 04:45:44-04
Nice work Bobbi! I am glad you are enjoying my classes. I am enjoying bringing them to everyone.

If you still want to get in on the tie class you can make it without ties! You can make a scrappy quilt from fabric scraps if you like. There will be some techniques like foundation or paper piecing done, I will be showing 4 different blocks, and you may pick up a tip or two for working with bias or fabrics that are off the grain line. This and much more. So for anyone who was not signing up do to lack of ties, why not try it with other fabrics from your stash. (maybe even add in a special fabric if you have, like some silks or satins. Fat quarter stashes would be great as well)

Just thought you might want to know!

Thanks for all the nice comments on my freindship pillow. The classes have been fun as they press me to comnplete, rather than just start, projects! LOL.

Can't wait to see the results of the tie class. I didn't register for that one...I have no ties!

Wonder what the next class will be?
