Tennye, making the box was super easy. Penny's instructions are very user friendly. I wish I had been able to find a bigger box so I wouldnt have felt the need to double it up though. I think I will be making one for my granddaughter soon as her first quilt will be ready to quilt by spring and she lives 7 hours from me. We will start it together then I will send her home to finish it. For sure I will be looking for the biggest box I can find.
Give it a try, you will be pleased with the difference just that extra few cubic feet of perfectly flat surface will make. I know I am
Happy quilting,
hugs Anna

Anna,
I too took the Quilting Coach course back in the spring, and it was great. I have a big table and I thought it would be sufficient to keep my quilting level, but after a few quilts have discovered that I need to make the commitment a build the box. I hate the tucks on the underside.

I can't help you, I live in the US, but I prefer to use Wonder-Under Transfer Web by Pellon. I have no Idea if it is available in Australia.
This site seems to have everything, I don't know anything about it, except that it is very big.

Hi Lisab. Wish I could help but no I dont know. I live in Queensland just north of Brisbane, and am not familiar with Sydney stores. I guess you have tried the usual Spotlight, Lincraft and quilting stores. Maybe theres a NSW member who may be able to help more.
Sorry I cant be of help.

Anna,
What a fantastic idea. I know your quilting instructress gets credits, but the idea of covering the boxes is all yours.
Thank you for the picture and web site. I certainly shall use both.

I love the wall hanging I am so inspired by all of you doing your projects. I need to complete so many and it seems the ones I need to complete are not the ones that are already in progress. My Christmas one has been in waiting for years now. That is the ones for me.

Re:Fabric Store Closing
- Re:Fabric Store Closing - 2007-11-19 14:15:33-05
All Walmart in the US are going out of fabric apparently, as they are now going to carry more crafts but no fabric on bolts.
All Hancocks in New York state have also closed, but when I went to Florida I went to one in Lakeland and spent a bundle too. Between Joann's, Hancocks, etc I came home with a LOT of new fabric. $300 to $400 dollars worth actually. But hubby found about $200 or $300 in diecast cars so we are even. Now the budget hits hard until holidays next year. (P.S. I did finish the Xms shopping for the grandchildren too, so it's ok)

Re:Flannel/flannette/quilters flannel
- Re:Flannel/flannette/quilters flannel - 2007-11-19 13:22:12-05
I have made quite a few of these quilts, using all kinds of flannel. As long as you don't clip too close to the seam it will be fine. I found that using 3 layers of flannel laid out flat before cutting, then cutting all at once was a much quicker method than the pattern which said to cut cottom batting squares 2 inches smaller than the flannel then layer them with the batting centered between. And the result was just as warm and gave another contrast by using a brighter color in the middle.
ost of mine were big, for beds (too heavy for me) so I took them to the laundromat to wash and dry to make them fluff, as they are very heavy in the dryer.

- Re:Christmas Projects-Need Help - 2007-11-19 13:41:50-05
My motto is to always give the one I like the most. I can make another but the recipient will hopefully love it as much as you do and not be able to recreate it since they possible don't quilt or craft.

- Re:Christmas Projects-Need Help - 2007-11-19 09:47:32-05
Joyce, both are so nice it would be so hard to make a decision. But if you really like the fabric in the second one and cant get more, then that is one vote to keeping it. Either way the winner of the raffle will be thrilled.

Sure glad the final decision is your.... they are both very nice.... Guess you could put numbers on them and draw from a hat. Good luck - I know I'm not much help but they are both so nice it would be a hard decision for me too.
Good luck - with your decision Diane

Joyce, I would keep the bottom one as well, and have the family members write theirs names in the blocks.

I have used both cheap and expensive flannel as well as plain cotton and all have done fine. I have also used denim. I still need to get some pictures of the Christmas tree.

Re:Christmas Projects-Need Help
- Re:Christmas Projects-Need Help - 2007-11-18 12:27:24-05
Joyce,
I would keep the bottom (2nd) one. You could then write your name, your husband's, children(s)'s names and or nieces, nephews, etc. etc. and/or your parents and your husband's parents names in the white card areas. Then you would have a real keepsake.
Anyhow, just a suggestion.

I have to make a decision, I am going to donate one of these to the Hospital Hamper Raffle and I like them both?
I have cut up all my scraps into 2 squares and made the shorter one and the other was a UFO from last christmas now just about finished. I have to still sew down the bindings but that will happen tonight unless it is too hot to sew. Joyce

Hello
I have seen somewhere a ruler with an opening in it. The ruler was square and the opening was a square opening. You get the exact print of fabric you want from the inside square and use a rotary cutter to cut it out. What is this ruler called? thank you Bethanne

Here is a picture of the Angel I made from Australian Country Threads Vol 2 No 5.So cute. Her head looked too small in the begining but she told me to leave as is, as we are all different but very special.
