I have made quite a few of these quilts, using all kinds of flannel. As long as you don't clip too close to the seam it will be fine. I found that using 3 layers of flannel laid out flat before cutting, then cutting all at once was a much quicker method than the pattern which said to cut cottom batting squares 2 inches smaller than the flannel then layer them with the batting centered between. And the result was just as warm and gave another contrast by using a brighter color in the middle.
ost of mine were big, for beds (too heavy for me) so I took them to the laundromat to wash and dry to make them fluff, as they are very heavy in the dryer.
