Joyce, I do believe we bought flannel from the same source. I recognise some of the fabrics in yours - same as in mine. But mine is not as big as yours - wish I had made it a little bigger.
Bethan, I made mine a couple of years ago and it is still holding fine. Taking the extra care with double seams etc is worth the time and so far I have had no problems with mine. I have a few friends who have also used cheaper flannel and noone has had a problem.

Hello Bethan20030, I have made a flannel raggy quilt and it has been washed many times. My kids call it my Nanna quilt, and a Nanna I am NOT. Yet.
I used flannel that was not very expensive and it has lasted really well. The first most important thing is to wash the fabric first, it shrinks a lot. Sew all the seams at 1/2 seam allowance and sew them all twice. I quilted diagonally accross all squares (you can quilt however you like) then sewed them all together and then sewed twice around the edges, clipping is time consuming and you need small sharp pointed scissors to do this. You then wash the whole quilt, Your washing machine comes up with a lot of little bits of cotton. I dry mine in the clothes dryer all the time and all the bits have just about stopped falling out. Hope this is helpful. Joyce

Hello
Has anyone ever used flannel/flannelette for rag quilts instead of quilters flannel?
Did you get good/poor results? Would the flannel/flannelette last or hold up, and wear just as long as quilters flannel?
Your experience? thank you

Way to go..........sales.........are the best!
What frame are you getting. I have a Hinterberg frame and just love it. I use my Babylock on the frame. I love being able to move my machine instead of the fabric when machine quilting. The only thing I don't like, is that my throat is not wide enough so for large quilts I still have to turn the quilt at the half way point to finish. So looking for a domestic machine with a larger throat is on my wishlist. Although it was quite a battle with the hubby to get my frame, so I don't think the machine will come anytime soon.
Anyway looking forward to seeing what you can do with your new toy! Enjoy it and make lots of quilts.

The blocks are lovely, but I would love to see more of the quilt they were on. What I could see of the quilting looked beautiful . did you do it too?

Bobbi,
Good to see you on, yes sadly some of the Hancock stores are still closing. As for the Walmart letting go of fabric ours has cleared it out, not even a remnant is left. I work at the Bernina store inside the Hancock though and we are not losing our store. I did the same thing you did in Bryan though Bobbi. I went to see my daughter and they were in the middle of closing and I left 150.$ poorer.

I can't believe Wal-Mart is possibly getting rid of their fabric. I have not purchased from them as I do not have one very close to me. Would be a good idea for JoAnne's to open in your town, I'd say.

Debra -
We have had the same thing happen here...
Yes we have Joanne Fabric's.. but the closest one to me is 90 miles away and the next one 120 miles.
I understand that Wal-Mart is getting rid of their fabric... sure hope not.
happy sewing Diane

Here in Oregon, all Hancock stores have closed and the majority of them opened as Joanne Fabric's, do you gals already have JoAnne's store?

Just a bit of good news. We were visiting Harrisburg Pa. and the Hancock store there is still in business and said they can even send whatever you might want, to you.
Nice to know since so many of their stores are closing.
