Hello Bethan20030, I have made a flannel raggy quilt and it has been washed many times. My kids call it my Nanna quilt, and a Nanna I am NOT. Yet.
I used flannel that was not very expensive and it has lasted really well. The first most important thing is to wash the fabric first, it shrinks a lot. Sew all the seams at 1/2 seam allowance and sew them all twice. I quilted diagonally accross all squares (you can quilt however you like) then sewed them all together and then sewed twice around the edges, clipping is time consuming and you need small sharp pointed scissors to do this. You then wash the whole quilt, Your washing machine comes up with a lot of little bits of cotton. I dry mine in the clothes dryer all the time and all the bits have just about stopped falling out.
