Deb, I have a piece of thick moleskin stuck to the faceplate of my machine at exactly the distance I need to achieve the 1/4 inch seam. Here is the trick. Cut two strips of fabric 2 1/4 inches wide. Sew it with the moleskin at 1/4 inch from the needle. Press the sewn strip and it should measure 4 inches. If it doesnt, move the moleskin either in a little to make a smaller seam allowance, or out to make a larger seam allowance. I had to fiddle with mine, but now its in place all I have to do is run the fabric along it and my seams are very accurate. Hope this helps a bit.
