Joyce, I often use Rasant brand which is sewing cotton, and also use either Signature brand machine quilting cotton or my favourite is Superior Threads brand King Tutt quilting thread. It is lovely to use for hand quilting and machine quilting. I particularly use the King Tutt on anything good or special .
I use them because they are the brands readily available to me here at my usual quilting store. Well actually they replaced the Signature with the King Tutt so I started using that and like it more.
But I did baby quilts using the Rasant and they have been machine washed numerous times with no problem. Rasant of course is cheaper and has more on the spool than the others.
