I read a conversation by Chris this morning at quilting weekly, reminding us quilters that we shouldn't call anything really a mistake in quilting. It is a design choice. Here are some of mine in this landscape quilt.

As in any quilt there are things that I probably would do different, if I was to do it again. As you can see there are blue strips at the top and the bottom. these are there because my dimensions didn't come out right after I changed from no sashing to sashing in my border. I could have made the sashing a little narrower on the side borders (and skipped the 1 strips), but decided not to do that.

Then I had forgotten that I hadn't squared up the sides of the landscape when I measured it. After I squared it up I had lost a inch in width. I didn't want to fool with strips that would finish 1/2 to compensate for the lose or make my top and bottom sashing narrower). (Note to make the center bigger than it needs to be or at least use a piece of muslin to sew the pieces to next time.) The remedy was to make the inner border strips on the sides 1/2 wider (I had aready cut them, but should find a use for 2 1/2 strips sometime.

Oh, there is another one; see the second block down on the right, Hills of Vermont , the medium green was suppose to be dark green. You ask what happened? Well, I pieced the half square triangles (in a strip or a block) before cutting them and when I went to press them, realized that I had the green bottom side up. I had a couple of choices: I could take each apart and resew, make a new set of half squares, or use them as they were. I chose the last option.

If you can't find the right ligher shade of a fabric, don't hesitate to try the back side of a fabric.

I'm going to post this at QW also.

Helena, the flying geese may be a good idea, but it is too late now.

    Kathy
