As with the kaleidoscope block, it is a good way to try out new or different techniques, on a small scale. Then it is just a matter of finding a fabric that will appeal to that person, as well as the design.
Anna, if you are like most of us, you will have lots of techniques or blocks you are keen to try. You may become Pillow Queen
Sue's dresden plate one is another good one that could be easily made to appeal to a young person. Hers is so effective. As Jo said, you will receive plenty of ideas.
