Diane I know how to do a block like the sunshine and shadows. Half the block is plain and the other half striped. It is quilt as you go and reversible. Don't know if I can explain well but I will try.
Get piece of batting (cotton preferabley)say 14 x 14.
Cut backing piece to fit cornerwaysmore than half, about an inch past the centre corner to corner, you need one for top and one for bottom the same.
Now place bottom one down, then batting on top, then top piece on opposite corner, middles should overlap. Then join stips cornerways, one at a time just by sewing them to the top piece starting in the middle, this will sew through to the bottom. Keep doing this until that half is full, then turn over and do it all again. Then trim your block , top and bottom, not the batting,to whatever size (probably 12.5 inches in this case. Then you join the blocks by sewing the sashing onto one piece at a time, from the top. The bottom you can sew by machine only one side of the sashing, then doo the other side by hand, like you do binding. Hope this makes sense. Pat
