    Diane,
    It really is a simple process. You piece your block like you would any block, then you stack the block, batting, and backing. Quilt as desired starting at the center of the block and working out toward the edges. Do not quilt the last inch or inch and half of the outside edge of your block.
    Layer your sashing as you layered your block, top batting and backing. To put them together place the block and the sashing right sides together. Fold the backing piece on the sashing back away from the seam area. Trim away some of the batting so it isn't too thick. Sew together in a quarter inch seem. Lay this out flat and take the loose backing and fold it under a quarter inch and blind stitch it in place over the seem covering it completely. Now you may complete the quilting on the block and after you have added the next block you can quilt your sashing as desired.
