I have bought a pattern for a rag quilt which has pieces cut on the bias. My patterns says to sew each seam twice, you could also do a smaller stitch to give it a good seam hard to fray past the stitch line. I have washed my quilt many times as I use it all the time, either for me or my dogs and cats dig holes in it to get comfortable (as they do)
cheflatte, the cutting out is the most time consuming part of the whole process, once you have it all cut out it goes like a breeze and you will have it hung in the shop before you know it. Sounds like a great pattern. I too don't buy patterns, just try to figure it out for myself, you are often able to from a picture.
